Description


The session is designed to address cardiac care issues which arise in primary care practices using a format consisting of short lectures, a Special Lecture, and interactive workshops. Registrants are encouraged to provide questions and/or case scenarios, from their practice, in advance of the workshops to provide a more tailored session.

This event is of interest to Rural and Remote Practicing Family Physicians, Urban Practicing Family Physicians, Academic Family Physicians and Residents.

Objectives

  • To enhance knowledge and skills in cardiac issues pertinent to primary care practices. (Medical Expert, Scholar)
  • To provide an update regarding emerging forms of primary and second prevention of cardiac disease. (Medical Expert, Scholar)
  • To review approaches to several atrial arrhythmias which are commonly seen in out-patient practices and how to guide patients through diagnostics and management options.(Medical Expert, Communicator, Collaborator)
  • To participate in collaborative and lively interactive workshops with cardiology specialists that review common topics from cases observed in day to day practice. (Medical Expert, Collaborator)

At the conclusion of this educational activity participants should be able to:

  • Identify which patients with atrial and ventricular premature contractions require intervention. (Medical expert; collaborator)
  • Explain the impact of Covid-19 on cardiovascular health. (Medical Expert, Health Advocate, Scholar)
  • Identify when to utilize new low dose anticoagulants and colchicine for cardiovascular disease prevention and how to discuss this with patients. (Medical Expert, Communicator, Scholar)
  • Apply the basic principles in reviewing EKG’s. (Medical Expert)
  • Interpret the evidence behind the newest guidelines in managing atrial fibrillation and flutter. (Scholar)
  • Explain how to apply best practices in caring for post-PCI and post-MI patient. (Medical Expert, Communicator)
